Get Involved

If you are interested in joining LSSWC, then come and meet us at the Athletic Union Bazaar on the 8th-9th of October 2011 in the Sir David Wallace Sports Hall. We can answer any questions you have about our sailing and windsurfing facilities and what we get up to.

If you don’t have a chance to speak to us at the Bazaar and you are still interested we are holding a welcome meeting on the 11th of October, at 7:30pm, in room D002, which is in the James France Block (We will have people inside/outside the block, directing you where to go).  Attendance at the welcome meeting is recommended to anyone wanting to join LSSWC, this will allow you the chance to meet other members and ask any questions you may have.

Membership

We welcome members of every level of sailing and windsurfing as long as you are a competent swimmer. Membership normally costs around £62 for the year which covers the costs for use of equipment and insurance. In addition to this you will also have to pay for AU Affiliation which is £15 per year.  This has to be paid if you join an AU Club, and you only need to pay it once regardless of how many AU clubs you join.

What we offer :

Members of LSSWC are able to attend our regular Wednesday afternoon and weekend sessions, which provide the opportunity to go sailing or windsurfing. Members are given the chance to participate in Sunday Fleet Racing at Burton Sailing Club, where the sailors can improve on their racing skills. To cover the costs for transport to the reservoir, we ask that those attending pay £3.00 towards petrol.

We compete in university racing events throughout the year for both windsurfing and sailing. These events allow us to sail/windsurf at different venues and meet other university sailors and windsurfers.  Please see our calendar for the dates of the events we are attending this year.

BUCS events are also attended by LSSWC; these events are at a national university level. This includes team racing, match racing, ladies team racing and yachting.
