If voted as Racing Team Captain I think could bring a lot to Loughborough sailing as I have a fair amount of experience in racing Toppers, Lasers and RS200s as well as team racing and match racing experience through sailing with the NSSA. As well as this, I have completed the RYA Dinghy Instructor Course with the Racing coach endorsement.
I have worked at the local outdoor education centre teaching sailing and racing to school kids weekly over the last 2 years and was required to have RYA Safetyboat and aquatic first aid qualifications..
I feel that I am quite an organised person and could work well with other members of the committee to arrange sessions, sort finances for events as well as liaising with the Athletic Union to get funding for events.
If voted as racing captain I would endeavour toEncourage more of the club to get involved with racing by running start racing sessions and taster sessions.
- Maintain a regular programme of team racing sessions and get those involved to attend regularly to promote team work. Trying to spend as much time on the water to improve boat handling and communication.
- Organise training sessions with RYA or other external coaches. There was definite interest in this after speaking to Ed Sibson at the BUSA event at Draycote.
- Involve more people with the club racing on Sundays and Wednesday evenings as practice racing against others is key for improvement at events.
- Arrange team racing sessions with Nottingham so that we can practice team racing against other teams.
Chris Williams
Hi,
I am Chris Williams and would like to run for Race Captain. I have enjoyed team racing since I came to university and have a background as dinghy instructor (with race endorsement) and have been sailing a mixture of boats from a young age. As race captain my primary goal would be to improve the training that the club provides for people wanting to competitively race. I would do this by running a team training session for both mens and womens teams on a Saturday roughly every 2 weeks. Here we could work on basic racing principles and move into team racing tactics. I would work closely with the women’s captain to organise the attendance at events. I also have friends within the AU which I hope would help in organising and gaining damage deposits for entry to events. I think I am very organised and would like to do something for the club in my final year.
