A message from the Outgoing Commodore

Dear Members of the Loughborough Students Sailing and Windsurfing Club

.

Hasn’t the last 9 months gone quickly. I hope you have all had an enjoyable time with the club this year. The Committee and I have been working tirelessly to offer a huge variety of experiences.  We have also successfully increased the membership this year and have cemented our position as one of the larger AU clubs. Social sailing has been very well organised and we have laid the foundations for great things in the coming years. Many of you have learnt to sail and good luck to those of you who will be doing your RYA qualifications this weekend.

.

The club has sent teams to several events during the course of the year. Hopefully some of you have fond memories of the Leeds Halloween Howler, which for many of you was your first experience of team racing not to mention partying until 4am and getting up to go sailing at 730.

.

We have competed at all the BUCS competitions this year from the fake Weymouth at Queen Mary to the Match Racing out of Cowes over Easter and the Windsurfers who attended their nationals just after Easter. Well done to all the members of these teams for representing Loughborough on the national stage with dignity and respect, (huhmm) mostly. Special mention to Emma Shrimpton for placing well at the windsurfing nationals, and also to the Yachting team for reacting quickly and calmly when they needed to recover a man overboard in the Solent.

.

On the social scene, thank you to Jenni Burt for ensuring I have seen among others, golfers,  zoo animals and some cowboys and Indians (remembering that Ghandi was also an Indian); all trying to disguise the fact they are actually sailors. Well done to everyone who came along and I can’t wait to see what we get next year.

.

Our event, the Lufbra Lemming was held in December and I want to thank everyone involved, especially Simon Gadd and Jenni Burt, in making it the success it was. We raised in the region of £1000 for the club.

.

Finally I would like to express my gratitude to the outgoing committee for their efforts in making my life easier and ensuring that this has been a brilliant year for Sailing at Loughborough.

.

I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer and I look forward to seeing you all again next year.

.
