A Club Update

Dear Members,

I hope that all of your exams have gone well and you are either home or on your way, for a well earned rest.

Next year looks like it is going to be busy one. We intend to push the club further than ever before by building on the excellent work from the previous year’s committee. Over the summer the committee and I will be working on several things in an attempt to make it the best year yet, with events, stash, courses and much more already in the planning.

On the subject of improvements for the club we are looking for suggestions from everyone. Big or small ideas, we will look at and consider them all. So any ideas either give me a buzz or drop me an email.

A big thank you to Dave McArthy for organising the level 1 and 2 RYA course last weekend. It sounds to have … Continue Reading

Southport 24hour race – September 11th/12th

Hi,

This is just a quick email to let you know about another event that we’ll be attending in the summer… The West Lancashire Yacht Club 24 Hour Race. The event is a long way off yet but I’m letting you know now so you can make a note in your diaries.

The Southport event is a 24 hour race non stop through the night in our Enterprise. The Ent takes a crew of two and we changeover every couple of hours so we can have a rest and get some sleep. We arrive on Friday 10th September to pitch our tents and then into the marquee for the party. The race starts at midday on Saturday 11th and we leave Sunday afternoon.

No experience in the Ent is necessary to sail, but for anyone who might not want to sail this weekend this is a great social event with bbq, dj etc. … Continue Reading

A message from the Outgoing Commodore

Dear Members of the Loughborough Students Sailing and Windsurfing Club

.

Hasn’t the last 9 months gone quickly. I hope you have all had an enjoyable time with the club this year. The Committee and I have been working tirelessly to offer a huge variety of experiences.  We have also successfully increased the membership this year and have cemented our position as one of the larger AU clubs. Social sailing has been very well organised and we have laid the foundations for great things in the coming years. Many of you have learnt to sail and good luck to those of you who will be doing your RYA qualifications this weekend.

.

The club has sent teams to several events during the course of the year. Hopefully some of you have fond memories of the Leeds Halloween Howler, which for many of you was your first experience of team racing not to mention partying … Continue Reading

Burton Club Regatta event this weekend

Hi all, please see below an email from Burton SC for a club regatta this weekend.
The Regatta Event is now confirmed for this weekend 19/20 June. This
should be a great two days sailing primarily for club members as the
event has not been advertised outside of the club (we might get the
odd one or two members).  OK OK it’s not been advertised that well
within the club either…….!

The format will be informal. The first race on the Saturday will not
be before 1PM and we will have either 2 or 3 handicap races depending
on wind conditions.

We will have a bring your own food BBQ on the Saturday evening.

On the Sunday we will have the annual Ernie Hewkin Memorial race at
11AM. For those that do not know this is a handicap in reverse, where
the slow boats start first and the fast boats last in such a manner
that the fleet converges until a set time … Continue Reading

Windsurfing Post

Guys and girls just received this message from Emma:
‘Alex would you mind asking the drivers if any of them have roof racks and would mind bringing my board back as I’m stuck in exams all week and I need it for my summer. Obviously I’d pay them a courier fee, and I have spare straps here if needed.

Alternatively its pretty small and will fit inside longer cars if you have spare drivers/space.
£20 in it for anyone who’s willing to do so.

Thankyou,
Emma’

Can anyone help?!

Let Emma know (emma.shrimpton@hotmail.co.uk) or myself,

Cheers,

Alex
